I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 05/10/2016 from NY 11205, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

05/10/16 11:38 Basic Information: Willie is a 9 year old male domestic short hair cat who was surrendered due to his previous owner passing away. Socialization: Around strangers Willie is friendly, outgoing and doesn’t play with adults. Willie has never been around children or other cats so it is unknown how she will react to being around them. Willie has been around one dog and is was relaxed and affectionate around that dog. Willie has never bitten another person or animal. Behavior: Willie has no behavior issues and is relaxed when he rides in a car. Willie’s previous caretaker did not attempt to give him a bath, trim his nails, or brush him so it is unknown how he will react to these events. Willie enjoys being picked up/held, placed in a carrier, and doesn’t mind being disturbed while her is resting/ sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Willie is decribed as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, shy, and quiet with a meidum activity level. When at home Willie likes to stay in his favorite spot. Willie enjoys playing with chasing toys and was kept mostly indoors but was let outside everyday. Willie was fed dry food form the brand meow mix. Willie is litter box trained and uses a uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Willie likes to scratch on card board boxes. Intake Behavior: Willie allowed staff to collar, scan for a microchip and take pictures with no signs of aggression.

Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Wille and at the time he was at the front reaching out with his paws. Willie solicits attention but also tries to leave the kennel. Willie allows handling but gets agitated and hisse then goes back to soliciting attention. Reaction to assessor: Willie does not come to front but looks at you calm and relaxed When spoken quietly: Willie comes to the front of cage soliciting attention Reaction to door cage opening: Willie remains soft and relaxed Reaction to touch: Willie solicits petting and attention Try picking cat up: Willie tolerants limited handling before becoming agitated Behavior Determination: Average Willie was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment he was displaying friendly behavior, comes to the front of the kennel, interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention and tolerates all petting. Willie is displaying behavior appropriate for a new or experienced cat owner.
