This sweet 2 year old had been given as a “gift” to the previous owner ( mistake number 1) then the previous owner moves to a place that doesn’t allow cats! (mistake number 2) Then just to be the idiots we already know they are, they dump KAMILAH at a HIGH KILL SHELTER!!! ( mistake number 3) Now, because of her fear, she needs a New Hope rescue to pull her to safety, being RATED RESCUE ONLY! ( mistake number 4) OFFER to FOSTER OR ADOPT KAMILAH…And avoid making the ultimate mistake of not saving a life!

05/24/16 21:12 BASIC INFORMATION Kamilah is an all-black cat that is 2 years old. The owner received Kamilah as a gift when she was just 4 months old. The owner no longer can care for Kamilah because she has moved to a place that do not allow pets. Kamilah has no known illness. SOCIALIZATION Kamilah has never lived with children. She has been briefly around teenager and she usually keeps to herself or shies away from being petted. When stranger visit, Kamilah sniffs and slowly approached to solicit attention. She has lived with one adult. Around her owner she is affectionate and sometimes playful. Kamilah has never been around other cats or dogs. BEHAVIOR Kamilah allows to be picked up briefly. She prefers being petted on the floor. She described an independent cat. She is fine around stranger. She has never received a bath but allows her nails to be trimmed. She has never had her coat brushed but walks into her carrier. She is quiet on car rides. She always uses her litter box and has no bite history. When she is picked up or carrier she tries to flee. FOR NEW FAMILIES TO KNOW Kamilah is described as independent, mellow and playful. When owner come home she greet her by the door. She meows when she is hungry. She enjoys walking around the house and lounging around. Kamilah enjoys any cat food given to her dry or wet. She also enjoys sleeping on the owner’s bed but also sleep in her cat bed. Kamilah enjoys hour of playtime such as wands, mouse toys or stuffed toys. She has been on a cat leash on various occasions. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE During intake Kamilah was nervous. She displayed whale eyes; body was tense and began hissing. When counselor attempted to gently take her out the carrier she began to swat and growl. To minimize stress she was transfer from her carrier and into her cage.

as per previous owner, Kamilah has never lived with children. She has briefly been around teenager and she usually keeps to herself or shies away from being petted. When strangers visit Kamilah sniffs and slowly approached to solicit attention. Around her previous owner she was affectionate and sometimes playful. Kamilah has never been around other cats or dogs. Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Kamilah.At the time her eyes were wide and dilated. She lip licks and focused on my movements. Kamliah was not interested in wet food or treats. She sniffed hand and backed away. Reaction to assessor: Kamilah was facing the back of the kennel and ignores me completely When spoken quietly: Kamilah continues to ignores me completely Reaction to door cage opening: Kamilah remains motionless Reaction to touch: Kamilah whips around and hisses as a warning Try picking cat up: Kamilah not tolerant of this type of handling Behavior Determination: NewHope Kamilah seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment he was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. Kamilah may require further investigation before placement in a home. She currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
