I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 06/07/2017 from NY 10472, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

Panther A1114594 was placed At Risk for URI and for behavior challenges. Panther allows some touch but has generally avoided interaction. She freezes or leans away when handlers approach. Panther was released for rescue only after her bite quarantine.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish ENRICHMENT NOTES: 6/8/17- In den on approach, no response to voice or door opening. Sat immobile when den was rotated to front, eyes fully dilated. Crept away to avoid touch, low body, hind end looked wet. 6/11/17- In den on approach, no response to voice or door opening. Held still when den was rotated to the front, eyes fully dilated, tense posture, tongue poking out. Retreated out of sight to far side of den in order to avoid touch. No response when pet. 6/12/17- Still in den, litter stuck all over muzzle, eyes dilated. No response at all to touch. After den was rotated, moved out of sight and froze when pet again. 6/13/17- Crouched behind den today, eyes dilated, tense posture. Retreated out of sight when door opened, froze in place when touched. 6/14/17- Back inside den. Exact same behavior as soon previously. Moved out of sight within den, eyes dilated, tense posture. Became completely immobile when touched, no response at all. 6/15/17- In den, peeking out, eyes fully dilated. Withdrew when door opened. Leaned away from touch, no response when pet. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Panther remains tense hiding in the cat den during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Panther remains stiff, eyes dilated, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Panther remains immobile when touched, leans away from the assessor’s hand, with no response when pet. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
