09/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Neptune comes to the front and was calm, relaxed, and friendly. Reaction when softly spoken to: Neptune meows and rubs against the cage door, soliciting attention. Reaction to cage door opening: Neptune remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Neptune head-butts and rubs against the assessor’s hand, however he becomes tense and whips his head back and focuses on the assessor’s hand when touched along his back. When stroked on his back, he grabs the assessor’s hand with his paws and nips in moderate pressure and his tail waves from side to side. He doesn’t seem to mind petting on his head, however, and will begin to purr. Reaction to pick up: Neptune becomes tense and struggles to be placed back down. When placed back into his kennel, his tail sways back and forth and attempts to nip. When extending your hand, he sniffs it and will rub against it gently when coaxed. Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Neptune is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Neptune becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. Due to his tendency to nip when touched on his back, we feel that this cat will do best in a home without children. Date: 08/18/16 Neptune was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Neptune and at the time he was very curious. Neptune had wide eyes looking out at the environment. Allows petting all over body and leans in for rubs. Reaction to assessor: Neptune comes to the front of the cage soliciting attention When spoken quietly: Neptune stays at front and continues soliciting attention Reaction to door cage opening: Neptune remains soft & relaxed Reaction to touch: Neptune solicits petting and attention Try picking cat Neptune is tolerant of this type of handling. Behavior Determination: Beginner Neptune interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat can go to a beginner home.
