***SAFE 04/19/16*** NEW HOPE shouldn’t mean “no hope,” especially when a cat’s life is on the line. Meet MISTY, one of two cats who were trapped and brought to the ACC on April 13th. Misty’s medical notes indicate that she is underweight and may have thyroid issues, so it’s doubtful that she is feeling her best. The shelter environment is scaring her, which leads to defensive behavior, which leads to a New Hope rating. Will Misty become a dreamboat the instant she leaves the ACC? No one can say…..but unless a New Hope rescue steps up for her tonight, no one will ever know. Please advocate widely for Misty, tonight.

04/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Misty was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Reaction to assessor: Misty makes eye contact and slow blinks at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Misty remains motionless and her ears start to bend flat. Reaction to cage door opening: Misty remains neutral. Reaction to touch: Misty hisses as you approach and attempts to swat. Misty doesn’t allow any contact. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Misty is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
