10/31/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Lucy and her sister, Bertha (A109422), are two adorable kittens who are still warming up to the shelter and trying to get a good sense of the new place in which they’ve found themselves. Lucy is the shyer of the pair, relying on Bertha’s cues. But adorable Lucy seems like she just needs a little reassurance to blossom into a confident feline. For instance, Bertha was the first to express interest in a feather toy, but after seeing Bertha play with it no problem, Lucy went all-in, adorably batting it and chasing it around. Lucy doesn’t seem necessarily scared – it’s more that she’s not quite sure what to make of humans yet. Hopefully someone can show her how great people can be.
10/24/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucy was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She had a tense body upon intake and appeared fearful of the counselor. She allowed all handling to be conducted, however, during the intake process. The medical team reports she attempted to flee, but also allowed all handling. Reaction to assessor: Lucy was curled up with her sibling by the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Lucy looks at the assessor and blinks softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Lucy remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Lucy was slightly hesitant, but remains in place and accepts petting all over her body. She closes her eyes and appears to appreciate touch. Reaction to pick up: Lucy remains soft and nuzzles against the assessor. Behavior Determination: Average Lucy interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. She may need time to warm up to her new home, but she is displaying behaviors appropriate for cat parents with an average amount of experience.
