LILY – A1092154
Safe - 10-17-2016 Brooklyn
***SAFE 10/17/16*** LILY WAS HANGING AROUND SOMEONE’S YARD FOR 9 FULL MONTHS BEFORE BEING DUMPED IN THE ACC SHELTER!! You would think that if you have seen a friendly cat in your yard for 9 months, you would either assume he lived in the neighborhood and belonged to someone OR you would find the kitty a home on your own. After all, 9 months is a long time. LILY sadly was picked up and whisked to the ACC for no reason at all, and now she is wondering what happened while her possible owner or caretaker is wondering the same. A volunteer writes: Lily is a pretty white kitty. She is a little shy at first, may be due to a condition in one eye, but she will warm up and come to you. She loved to be pet while eating. She loves your body rubs coming back for more. Lily is really a sweet girl and a great young lady who deserves a home. Show Lily some love and she will love you back. LILY deserves to have a real home and a happily ever after but only YOU can give that to her. PLEASE SAVE HER LIFE TONIGHT BY OFFERING TO FOSTER OR ADOPT NOW!!

10/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lily was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Her finder reports she has been in their yard for the past 9 months and reports she is friendly. She was nervous upon intake and would not come out of her carrier. She was tense and nervous during her initial medical exam, but allowed handling to be conducted. The enrichment facilitator reports she appeared unsure of her surroundings during their first interaction. She was crouched in a low body position, but would lean forward to smell their hand. She became a little more relaxed the second day and allowed petting on her head. Reaction to assessor: Lily sat by the front of her kennel, alert. Reaction when softly spoken to: Lily appeared unsure and nervous. Reaction to cage door opening: Lily remains by the front and leaned forward to sniff around. Reaction to touch: Lily was hesitant of petting initially, but she allows petting on her head and soft passes on her body. She arches her back and leans in for more head rubs. Reaction to being picked up: Lily allows handling, but was a bit tense during pick up and when held. She continues to allow petting when placed back in her kennel, but the base of her tail pilo-erects and she turns around to face the assessor’s hand and hisses. She does not display any further reaction. Behavior Determination: Experienced Lily interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to hiss at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Lily becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents and any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
