11/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Stuart was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She did not allow handling during intake and attempted to flee. She also attempted to flee during her initial medical exam, and the medical team reported she was tense and nervous. Reaction to assessor: Stuart was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Stuart’s eyes widen and she looks around at the surroundings. Reaction to cage door opening: Stuart becomes stiff, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Stuart focuses on the assessor’s hand and meows softly. She accepts petting with a slow and gentle approach, lowering her body, but warms up after a few strokes. She begins to purr, leans in for cheek rubs, and lifts her rear. Reaction to pick up: Stuart becomes tense and wiggles to be placed back down. Behavior Determination: Experience Stuart appreciates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
