04/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Patty came into the care center as a stray so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. At intake Patty was tense and at times tried to flee, but she tolerated handling. She was also tolerant during her initial medical examination, though tense and nervous. When interacting with our enrichment facilitator, Patty was timid at first but warmed up quickly, leaning and arching into pets, though she remained a bit skittish. The following day Patty was much more social, head butting and leaning into pets and taking treats enthusiastically. At the time of her evaluation Patty was a bit more timid and hesitant to intearct with the assessor, though she was tolerant of touch. Reaction to assessor: Patty is standing neutrally in her cage when approached. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains in place. Reaction to touch: Patty allows some touch and petting along her head and body, but retreats to the back of the cage and avoids the assessor’s hand. Placement determination: Experienced home without children Patty tolerates attention and petting but appears to be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Her level of socialization is unknown and she may need time to warm up to her new home and may need to build confidence and comfort around her human caretakers. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
