KNOWN HISTORY: Trent was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on his behavior in his previous home. He did not allow handling during intake and displayed distance-increasing behaviors when handling is attempted. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: In kennel, hissed and growled when I introduced the MC scanner. Reaction to cage door opening: Trent becomes alert and hisses. Reaction to touch: Trent hisses and starts to growl. He does not allow contact and will hiss and strike near the assessor’s hand to warn. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot evaluate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish, Independent BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that Trent is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Placement with a New Hope partner – Trent is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
