06/09/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Smokey was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Patient was very shy however, allowed for all handling and P.E EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Smokey was curled up in the back of the cage with his tail wrapped along his body. Reaction when softly spoken to: Smokey lies frozen at the back then slowly turns his head away when the assessor calls his name. Reaction to cage door opening: Smokey is tense and alert. Reaction to touch: Smokey’s eyes widen and he shifts his weight when the assessor extends his hand out. He seems pretty uncomfortable and has a very tense body when touched. He lip licks throughout the interaction and stays at the back where he feels comfortable. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Smokey has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Smokey may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
