RAGS doesn’t understand why she is here….or why she is no longer home. But she knows she is fighting to stay alive…..RAGS has a New Hope rating and needs to be pulled by rescue. I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 06/05/2016 from NY 11230, owner surrender reason stated was ALLERGIES. I came in with Group/Litter #K16-060304.

06/05/16 21:20 Rags is a fifteen year old spayed tortie domestic shorthair. She was surrendered by her owner due to allergies. Rags has been living with owner for over a year and was given to owner by a family member. Owner stated the family member moved into the home with the pets and could no longer care for them. Rags is described as shy and fearful around strangers she will stay hidden when visitors come to the home. She does not engage in play with adults. She has not been around children or dogs. She lived with her littermate Sam and is described as relaxed and affectionate. She has never bitten another animal or person. Rag’s is relaxed and will sleep in car rides. She uses the litterbox and used an uncovered litterbox and any litter. She will hiss and swat when bathed or when placed in a carrier. She enjoys being brushed and is not bothered when she is distrubed while sleeping. Rag’s activity level is described as low, she likes to lounge around the home. She has been kept only indoors and can be found in her favorite spot. She eats wet and dry food and is free fed. She sleeps in her cat bed or on the sofa. She had a fabric vertical scratching post in her previous home. Upon intake Rags was tense and growled and hissed when counselor approached. She was not collared, photo was taken inside carrier and she swatted at scanner.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rags’s previous owner reports she is shy and fearful around strangers, and will stay hidden when visitors come to the home. She does not engage in play with adults, and has not been around children or dogs. She has lived with her littermate and is relaxed and affectionate with the cat. She likes to lounge around the home and has a low activity level. Reaction to assessor: Rags was inside a hidey den upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Rags does not respond. Reaction to cage door opening: Rags become stiff and alert, and starts to growl. Reaction to touch: Rags does not allow touch; she spits and strikes when extending hand. Placement Determination: New Hope Only Rags is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
