Pie’s previous owner reports she has never been around children or teenagers. She may hide around strangers, but will come out for treats. She has lived with one adult and was aloof and independent around them. She does not enjoy being picked up or held, however, and is fearful of loud noises. She was described as a shy, fearful, and mellow cat. She doesn’t really care for cat toys, but does like to play with strings. When the owner comes home, she greets them by the door. Reaction to assessor: Pie was calm and relaxed upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Pie becomes alert and lowers her head, ears tilting sideways. She looks at the assessor, and then looks away, unsure. Reaction to cage door opening: Pie lowers her body and becomes tense. Reaction to touch: Pie sniffs the assessor’s hand, but was hesitant of contact and twitches when touched. She warms up after a few strokes, however, leaning in for petting and lifting her rear when touched on her lower back. She seems to appreciate attention, but seems wary of her surroundings. Reaction to pick up: Pie is tense during pick up, but allows the assessor to hold her. Behavior Determination: Experienced Pie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home.
