04/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mittens came into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home, or to his previous situation. He was nervous at intake and during his initial medical examination, tolerating some handling but hesitant to interact. During his behavior evaluation Mittens was in his cat den. He offered the assessor several slow blinks and stuck his head out of the den after the assessor closed the cage door and sat back, but he was not comfortable fully interacting. Please note that Mittens has been treated for an upper respiratory infection since arrival. Reaction to assessor: Mittens is in his cat den and cannot be coaxed out. Reaction to cage door opening: Mittens remains in the den. Reaction to touch: The assessor moves the den so she is able to see Mittens. Mittens slow blinks several times and shows some curiosity about the assessor, even going so far as to extend his head out of the den, but each time the assessor reaches a hand toward Mittens, he retreats. Placement determination: Experienced home without children Mittens has tolerated some attention and petting but appears to be fearful and stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
