She needs a new home asap where she can decompress and relax.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.

Lilly is at risk due to behavior, Adult Only determination. She is fearful in the care center and would do best in an adult only home that will give her adequate time to acclimate to her environment. There are no medical concerns for Lilly at this time.

When I attempted to open Lilly’s carrier, she lunged towards me and growled. She swatted and hissed while being transferred into her kennel.
Basic Information:: Lilly is a 3 year old DSH tortie female. She was bought from a pet store in 2014. She was surrendered because her previous owner has a child with allergies.
Previously lived with:: 2 adults, 1 child
How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers, Lilly is friendly and outgoing and exuberant and somewhat rough when she plays with adults.
How is this cat around children?: Lilly lived with a 11 year old child. With him, he was relaxed and affectionate and exuberant but somewhat rough at play.
How is this cat around other cats?: Lilly spent a few minutes with another cat. She was placed in front of the cat and he walked towards her, she jumped back, hissed and ran away.
How is this cat around dogs?: Lilly has not interacted with dogs.
Behavior Notes: Lilly lived with a small turtle for the past 8 months. She likes to follow him when he walks around the home and tap his head and shell. When he walks towards her she runs away and runs back to him and taps him. In car rides, Lilly is relaxed. She isn’t bothered if her nails are trimmed, if her she’s picked up, placed in a carrier or disturbed while sleeping. She enjoys having her coat brushed.
Bite history:: Lilly has never attempted to bite a person or animal.

Medical Notes: Lilly was last seen by a vet on 5/6/15. She has no known injuries or health concerns.
For a New Family to Know: Lilly is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy and talkative. The two things her previous owner liked most were; she speaks when she wants something and is sweet. When her previous owner was home, she followed her around. She likes to play with balls an chasing toys. She was kept indoors only and at night she slept in her previous owners, daughters bed. She ate Friskies both wet and dry.She is litter box trained and used an uncovered litter box and clumping litter. She scratched on both furniture and a scratching post. The scratching post she used was vertical and made of carpet, the furniture she scratched on was made of fabric.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/13/18 Observed Behavior -netted, very limited exam, striking, screaming
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/13/18 Curled up in den on approach. Stayed silent and completely out of sight when door opened. Started hissing, growling, repeatedly striking assess-a-hand when offered treats. Covered cage, left alone for now. 2/14/18 Resting on bedding next to den, eyes dilated. Started grumbling and hissing on approach. Sat up, flattened ears, tried to swat between bars when shown assess-a-hand. 2/15/18 Resting next to den, eyes dilated, alert. Whined when cage cover lifted. Hissed and swatted when attempted to open door. Left alone to avoid further escalation.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Lilly remains neutral, lying down on her cage bedding.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Lilly becomes alert with soft eyes, loose body.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Lilly remains in place, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Lilly seemed interested at first, but quickly sniffed the assessor’s hand then retreated, hissed, and pawed at the assessor’s hand.

Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
