Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Jaime was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was very fearful upon intake, hissing and swatting when handling was attempted. He also displayed distance-increasing behaviors during his initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Jaime was inside a den when approached. Reaction when softly spoken to: Jaime does not respond. Reaction to cage door opening: Jaime peeks out from a hole on the den with dilated eyes and starts to growl. Reaction to touch: Jaime hisses and retreats from the assessor’s hand. He continuously tries to avoid contact and lifts his paw up to prepare to swipe. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Jaime is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
