KNOWN HISTORY:
Gucci was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
7/24/18
Briefly at front, alert, eyes dilated, looking around. Retreated into den on approach, started hissing and deep growling loudly when spoken to. Left alone for now.
7/25/18
Sitting upright by the front, randomly growls while briefly accepting the touch and paws the hand to stop the interaction.
7/26/18
Huge improvement! Resting in den, came out when spoken to, soft eyes and body, started grooming. Came forward when door opened, started eating offered treats. Leaned and arched into pets, purred. Rubbed against the bars after door closed, no hissing or pawing at all today!
7/27/18
Slowly engages the front, soft body, leans in for pets and purrs throughout the interaction.
Cage Condition:
No change
Reaction to assessor:
Gucci remains neutral, sitting upright by the front during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Gucci meows, remains alert with eyes wide open, looking around.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Gucci engages while randomly growling, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:
Gucci briefly allows the touch on the head and body, but began to growl and paw at the hand to stop the interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Moderate
VOCAL:
Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE:
Curious
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Pet-induced aggression
Potential challenges comments:
Initially Gucci solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to growl and paw at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Gucci becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Gucci may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
