*** SAFE 04/29/17 *** A volunteer writes: Handsome boy Giannis looks a little down in the dumps in his photo, and I bet I know why. Since his kitten years, he was part of a family that included three young kids to play with and humans who let him curl up in their bed at night. Now he’s in the cat adoption room, relinquished by his people due to allergies. His former owners told us awesome things about this shy tabby: he warms up fast to new people, is affectionate and spirited, enjoyed lying around with the children, batting toy balls and string, and running around with the small dog in the home. At the Care Center he’s been adjusting well, accepting pettings and getting used to new faces . . . yet he’s still a little on guard. Change is tough, but Giannis is making the best of things.

04/15/17 15:47 Basic Info Giannis is a young brown tabby that was raised from a kitten by its original owner. Unfortunately, his owner can no longer care for him because of allergic reactions to his dander so he was brought to our Bronx care center. He is said to not have any injuries or health problems. He has not been seen by a veterinarian under their care. Socialization Around strangers, Giannis is said to be shy for a few minutes but will approach purring and rubbing against their leg. He has lived with children (ages 4, 6, 8) and tolerates them. He does play gently but if he gets overly excited, the children would have to be told to move away. He has not spent time with any cats other than his litter mates when he was a kitten. He has spent time with a 12 year old spayed Shih Tzu who tolerated each other’s space and would run around the apartment. He has never bitten anyone or any other animal. Behavior Giannis has scratched up furniture in the past and had has litterbox accidents. He rode in the car to care center in his owner’s arms and felt tense. He rarely had litterbox problems but when he did he would pee outside of the litterbox. It was noticed about three months. He is afraid of taking a bath and sometimes struggles with his nails being trimmed. He will pull his paw back but doesn’t bite. He enjoys being picked up and held. He doesn’t mind being put in a carrier. For a New Family to Know Giannis is said to be friendly, affectionate, playful shy and sometimes talkative. His activity level was described as high. He is more active in the night. His previous owner said that he is very loving and je loves to lay with children. At home, he tends to follow you around. He likes to play with balls, stuffed toys, string, wand toys and catnip toys. He has been kept indoors only and was used to sleeping in the bed with the previous owners. Giannis is used to eating Meow Mix, one cup twice a day. He is mostly litterbox trained and has used a hooded litterbox with clumping litter. He has used a scratch mat which was made out of rubber, Behavior during Intake Counselor attempted to handle but was unable to collar because of Giannis swatting and hissing.
