I came into the shelter as a stray on 20-Dec-2017.
Geneva is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Geneva will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. Geneva should go to an experienced cat owner who is familiar with cat body language as she can become overstimulated.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/21/17 Lying in back of kennel, with a low, tense body, head resting on kennel floor. She tolerates petting along her head and body while turning to smell my hand, eyes wide and pupils dilated. Needs more time to adjust. 12/24/17 Lying on top of kuranda bed with a relaxed body, ears forward. She raises her head when spoken to and begins to vocalize softly. She jumps down off of her bed and comes forward to head-butt my hand in greeting, tail raised. Tail begins to quiver and she whips her head back each time my hand passes softly along her back. She turns her head to head-butt my hand, then nips without breaking my skin or glove. Showing signs of overstimulation – gets excited quickly during interaction. 12/26/17 Standing in front of kennel as I approach, leaning against kennel door and vocalizing. Meows become long and drawn out when I speak to her and she flattens her ears. She allows petting along her head and body when I open the kennel door while leaning in, tail raising and becoming pilo-erect. Tenses slightly occasionally throughout interaction and whips head around to watch my hand but shows no further reaction for the remainder of the session. Swats at my hands with tilted ears as I’m closing the kennel door. May be showing signs of petting induced aggression. Ate all treats given. 12/28/17 Crouched beneath kuranda bed, pupils dilated and tail wrapped around body. She leans her head forward as I reach towards her and allows one pet along the head before retreating through her portal with a low body and tail. She retreats again when I approach her from the other side, tail flickering back and forth and face tensing as she settles back down. Tense and uncomfortable today – not interested in treats at the moment. May have just received a medical treatment. Needs more time to adjust. 01/02/18 Hunched in back of kennel, body tense and tail wrapped around her. She tolerates petting along her head and body while flattening her ears and looking straight ahead. Shifts weight. Not interested in interacting today – may be uncomfortable due to URI. Needs time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Geneva is calm and relaxed, perched on top of her kuranda bed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Geneva meows and leaps down from her bed, and approaches the front of the kennel.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Geneva becomes alert and retreats to the back, but approaches the front again after.
Reaction to touch:: Geneva meows and head-butts the assessor hard. Her tail begins to quiver, and then it starts to sway from side to side. She flinches when pet sometimes, but relaxes once she realizes it was the assessor petting her. She appears to get overstimulated, but does fine with slow and gentle movements.
Reaction to being picked up:: Geneva is tense and quickly leaps back into her kennel.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Lively
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Sweet,Affectionate,Curious
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation
Potential challenges comments:: Geneva is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before she becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Geneva solicits attention and tolerates petting but may become overstimulated during interactions. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents who will be mindful of her body language and to avoid further interaction when she gets excited. Any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
