12/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dell was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He displayed fractious behavior upon intake and did not allow the counselor to conduct any handling. The medical team reports he did not allow restraint, attempting to flee during his initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Dell becomes stiff and alert upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Dell focuses on the assessor and starts to hiss and growl. Reaction to cage door opening: Dell hisses, but remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Dell focuses on the assessor’s hand and does not allow touch; he hisses and swats when petting was attempted and retreats further back into his kennel. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Dell is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
