SAFE 11/2/16
BEEN HERE SINCE JULY—— A volunteer writes: Corri is a pretty, young tuxie girl, a bit too timid to come forward to greet you at her kennel door. She does sit straight up and pay attention while you’re talking to her or changing her litter, but she won’t come to greet you. So if Corri won’t come to you, well, you know… you’ll have to go to her. Chat her up a bit, and let her sniff your hand, and wouldn’t you know it, she puts her head down for you to caress her neck. And then she leans into it, as if to say, “yes, right there, that’s it, just keep giving me those nice neck rubs.” Corri’s too shy to ask, so you have to take the initiative. And when you do, you’ll make this little girl very, very happy.

Reaction to assessor: Corri looks at the assessor with wide eyes
When spoken quietly: Corri continues to watch the assessor
Reaction to door cage opening: Corri remains motionless
Reaction to touch: Corri slowly approaches the front but retreats to due loud sounds
Try picking cat up: Corri is tolerant of this type of handling but tense.
Behavior Determination: Experience
Corri was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment she was displaying timid behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remains motionless as I started to get closer but after a steady slow approach using soft voices she relaxed a little. I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. I was also able to pick her up and although she was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
