**SAFE 04/21/16** THREE CHEERS FOR CHUCKLES!! …A volunteer writes: Chuckles is a bit scared in the shelter environment with all the unfamiliar sounds and smells. He is used to a home of his own. When I open the door to his kennel, he eyes me nervously. But after some sweet talk and gentle cooing, he knows I am a friend. He greatly enjoys it when I scratch his cheek and rub under his chin. He leans into my hand and closes his eyes in pleasure. What Chuckles really needs is a quiet home with a gentle guardian where he can feel loved and wanted. Do you have a spot in your heart for Chuckles? Another volunteer writes: Chuckles is the sweetest guy ever! He may be a bit shy in the cage, but he is such a loving mush. He just wants to cuddle up and get scritched on a big yummy cheek. He’s so ready to lie next to you and lounge. No matter what your situation, big house or tiny studio, he’ll find just the right comfy place to curl up and purr. Still another volunteer writes: Chuckles is a real sweetheart!! He misses having a human of his own. Chuckles is a loyal and loving companion. Won’t you be his forever human? He is waiting for you to help him out of his shell and show you all he is!!!……CHUCKLES LOST HIS OWNER AND HIS HOME, SO HE NEEDS ANOTHER!! Cat Friendly this boy needs some TLC stat!! 03/16/16 14:18 BASIC INFO Chuckles is an 8 year old male DSH cat. His owner had him since he was young. His owner recently passed away, so a family member who knew him brought him to ACC. SOCIALIZATION Chuckles is shy with new people. His owner didn’t interact with him much. He lived with other cats (male and female) and was respectful of them. He’s never bit/scratched anyone. BEHAVIOR Chuckles was nervous but allowed his owner’s relative to put him in a carrier. He escaped his carrier in the car but was relaxed in the back seat. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Chuckles’ caretaker describes him as playful, shy, independent, quiet, and medium energy. He spends a lot of time on top of a bookshelf. He lived inside and ate dry and wet cat food. He’s littertrained, used an uncovered litterbox with clumping litter, and didn’t have accidents. He occasionally scratched the couch lightly but didn’t have a scratching post.

04/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
**Update: 04/19** Chuckles appears to be deteriorating in our busy adoption room. He now retreats when someone approaches him and hisses if petting is attempted. He has not escalated or shown any aggression or other distance-increasing behaviors, but it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. Reaction to assessor: Chuckles was lying down in his cubby, looking at the assessor. He is a bit alert, and his eyes wander around to look at his surroundings. Reaction when softly spoken to: Chuckles slowly stretches and averts his gaze. Reaction to cage door opening: Chuckles gets up and crouches over, hesitant. Reaction to touch: Chuckles sniffs the assessor’s hand and leans in slightly when touched. He slowly warms up and head-butts lightly, he begins to purr, and starts to knead. He may become overwhelmed with quick movements and retreat, but he appears to appreciate attention with slow and careful strokes. Behavior Determination: Experience Chuckles appreciates attention and gentle petting but may be still be a bit fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Date: 03/03/16 Chuckles’ former owner stated he is shy around new people. Also, lived with other cats (male and female) and was respectful of them. Chuckles’ caretaker describes him as playful, shy, independent, quiet, and medium energy. Reaction to assessor: Chuckles looks tense in the cage when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Chuckles remains hiding in his cat den, alert with eyes wide open, body is held tightly. Reaction to touch: Chuckles peaks out from the den, slowly leans into the assessor’s hand but remains cautious with his surroundings. Placement determination: Experience Chuckles tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
