Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Applejacks was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was not handled upon intake because she was displaying distance-increasing behavior. She also displayed fractious behavior during her initial medical exam. Reaction to Assessor: Applejacks was inside a hidey den. Reaction when softly spoken to: Applejacks does not respond. Reaction to cage door opening: Applejacks becomes stiff and alert, as seen through a peep hole on the side of the den. Her eyes become wide. Reaction to touch: Applejacks hisses initially, but allows petting and becomes immobile. She appears more concerned over the environment, than touch and watches the room. She remains curled up, her ears tilt sideways, and she lip licks during the interaction. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Applejacks tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
