***SAFE 03/04/18***TERRIFIC YOUNG TABBY LOST HOME WHEN OWNER BECAME HOMELESS! ONE YEAR OLD SUNY was dumped by his owner. He is frightened and ran all over the examining room before being caught. He is already neutered and healthy and needs a new furever home. SUNY is a scared but very sweet boy who desperately needs a kind purrson to offer him temporary or purrmanent safe haven. MUST BE RESERVED BY NOON TOMORROW.

Hello, my name is Suny. My animal id is #21460. I am a desexed male black tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 23-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- homeless.

Suny is at risk for behavior reasons. Suny is extremely anxious and fearful in the Care Center. Although Suny will accept petting following a slow approach, she remains very wary of her surroundings and retreats at the slightest noise or movement. Medically, we have no concerns for Suny, who presents as a healthy cat.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 1yo Microchip noted on Intake? Microchip Number (If Applicable): History : O surrender due to being homeless Subjective: BAR. Very nervous and scared. Jumped off the table, running and jumping all around the room trying to flee. Eventually caught p and placed in net, heavy breathing, open mouth breathing. Gave p a moment to calm down. Limited PE. Did not do CT and pyrantel deworming as this would have stressed p out again. Will do at another time. Observed Behavior – Evidence of Cruelty seen – n Evidence of Trauma seen – n Objective T = P = wnl R = tachypnea BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: unable to examine PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, MM pink, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: not assessed U/G: MN MSI: Ambulatory x 4, no ectoparasites seeb, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: NE Assessment: easily stressed and nervous apparently healthy Prognosis: good Plan: ctm at MACC until transfer/adoption reschedule CT and deworming

Upon intake Suny allowed all handling. He attempted to flee once removed from the carrier, allowed being collared and allowed being placed in a carrier. He had a tense body and dilated eyes. No further handling was attempted.

Basic Information:: suny is a roughly 1 year old cat who was found as a stray and kept with the previous owner for 7 months. unfortunately due to losing a home he could not be kept.

How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers he is described as fearful and doesn’t play
How is this cat around children?: He has not been socialized with children
How is this cat around other cats?: He has not been socialized with cats
How is this cat around dogs?: He has not been socialized with dogs
Behavior Notes: Suny will scratch furniture and is relaxed during car rides. He isn’t bothered with being given a bat, having his nails trimmed or being picked up and held. He is afraid of being placed in a carrier and has never been brushed.
Bite history:: He has no known bite histories
Energy level/descriptors:: medium energy level
Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
Medical Notes: He has no known medical issues. He was last taken to the vet September 2017 for vaccines and neutering.
For a New Family to Know: He is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow and shy. He enjoys playing with balls and strings. He was being fed Friskies dry food, had an uncovered litter box with clumping litter and had no scratching post.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Suny was brought in with limited information on their behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/23/18 Subjective: Very nervous and scared.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Suny hisses during the approach, crouched position hiding in the cats den.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Suny becomes alert with pupils dilated, responding back with a soft meow.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Suny seems unsure, curls up in place, cautious with his surroundings.
Reaction to touch:: Suny seems curious with the interaction. He slowly sniffs the assessor’s hand then body leans during the petting. Suny’s eyes remain wide, but warms up after a few strokes and engages the front. He then laid on his cage bedding. However, he quickly retreated back into the den while he remains cautious with sudden noises.
