Starsteps was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on his behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. He was nervous and alert during intake, but he allowed some handling.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Observed Behavior – very tense
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
10/1/2017 Lying in back of kennel, cuddled up next to litter-mate. Lifts head and hisses as I reach forward, then tolerates petting briefly along head and body before retreating quickly through portal, body low. Needs more time to adjust.

Starsteps was resting, curled up with his sibling.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Starsteps does not respond and continues to sleep.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Starsteps remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:
Starsteps remains in place and allows gentle petting on his head and body. He blinks his eyes and his ears tilt sideways, but he warms up after a few strokes and remains in place.
Reaction to being picked up:
Starsteps becomes tense and attempts to flee, but he allows handling to be conducted. After a moment, he wiggles to be placed back down.

Starsteps is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. He may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people.
