Hello, my name is Elektra. My animal id is #8736. I am a female calico kitten at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 3 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 03-Oct-2017.

Edit [DVM Intake] Estimated age: 3 mos Microchip noted on Intake? neg History : Stray – part of litter of 4 Subjective: BARH Observed Behavior -Cautious and may flea but warms up and calms down with time Evidence of Cruelty seen – none Evidence of Trauma seen – none Objective T = P = 200 R = BCS= 5/9 EENT: Eyes – MPOD. Ears – AS – foul odor and yellow and brown discharge with a little blood, AD only waxy d/c. No nasal discharge noted but slightly congested. Oral Exam: no oral ulcers, normal kitten dentitia PLN: No enlargements noted. H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: female, intact MSI: Ambulatory x 4, no parasites seen, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not done Assessment: 3 mo female DSH. Conjunctivitis. Otitis externa AS – possibly otitis media. Prognosis: Good Plan: Clean ears and eyes. Erythromycin OU BID x 7 days – first dose given. Clavamox 0.3 cc PO BID x 10 days – first dose given – for otitis. Tresaderm AS BID x 10 days. SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to URI.
Re-exam URI History : Stray – part of litter of 4. Intake 10/4 and started on tresaderm, clavamox, and erythromycin Subjective: BAR. Sneezing but no c/v/d. Great appetite Objective EENT: Mucoid ocular d/c OU, purulent nasal d/c bilaterally H/L: Sneezing with audible upper resp congestion MSI: Ambulatory x 4, no parasites seen, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: URI Conjunctivitis. Otitis externa AS – possibly otitis media Plan: Iso Erythromycin OU BID D/c Clavamox Tresaderm AS BID Start doxycycline 10mg/kg PO SID x10d Recheck day 5, 10 Good prognosis

Elektra was brought into our care center as a stray so there is no previous history available. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Cautious and may flea but warms up and calms down with time. ENRICHMENT NOTES: Sitting crouched in back of kennel, body tense and ears flat. Tolerates petting along head and body while hissing and turning head to face my hand. Needs more time to adjust. Sprayed feliway. Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Elektra is sitting crouched in the back of her kennel with ears flattened as the assessor approaches. Reaction when softly spoken to: elektra makes eye contact when spoken to, body tense. Reaction to cage door opening: Elektra darts forward a few inches as the cage door opens, then freezes in place. Reaction to touch: Elektra tolerates petting along her head and body while hissing and lowering herself, ears flattened and tail wrapped around body. Turns head to watch assessor’s hand with a tense face. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Kitten socialization Potential challenges comments: Kitten Socialization Elektra is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes s/he has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experience Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Elektra tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter.
