09/15/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rees was brought in after being trapped along with several other cats in a community. We cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home or to his previous situation. He did not tolerate handling at intake, nor during his initial medical examination, attempting to flee. He was hiding in his cat den when approached by the assessor, and allowed only a minimum of contact. Reaction to assessor: Rees is in his cat den. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains in place. Reaction to touch: The assessor turns the den so she can see Rees. He is in the middle of the box, tense but not retreating. She then gently attempts to touch Rees and he allows the touch but flinches hard. In order to minimize stress, the evaluation is ended at this point. Placement determination: New Hope Only Rees is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is clearly uncomfortable with interaction and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
