KNOWN HISTORY: Previously lived with: 3 Adults Behavior toward strangers: Fearful and keeps her distance Behavior toward children: Lived with a toddler but she is gentle and mostly keeps to herself. Behavior toward cats: Lived with another cat and was respectful of each other’s space Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: She urinates in the box and has been defecating outside for about a year Energy level/descriptors: Independent, sometimes affectionate and mellow Other notes: She enjoys having her coat gently brushed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Princess rubs her entire body against the cage and reaches out with soft paws. Reaction to cage door opening: Princess immediately walks out the kennel. Reaction to touch: Princess is very curious and walks around exploring her environment. She comes over when called, brushes her body up for attention and gives soft head butts when rubbed. Her body is soft and relaxed when touched and she is constantly soliciting attention. She does get aroused with prolonged interactions and will whip around quickly and hiss, but she doesn’t display any further reaction. Reaction to being picked up: Princess is calm, relaxed and allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Energetic VOCAL: Talkative CHARACTER TYPE: Curious, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Inappropriate elimination – Princess’s previous owners report that she was eliminating (defecating) outside the litter box for about a year. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment.
Overstimulation – Princess is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before [name] becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Princess may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
