Brooklyn Center
Pretzel 22727 – 2 yr. female Calico, stray:
Origin Address If yes, Please elaborate:Pretzel came in as a stray.
Behavior Notes:
Pretzel was very sweet and easy to handle. Purring and eating well.
3/14/18 5:08 PM Noticed that Pretzel bit and scratched a volunteer’s hand today and then growled after he pet her for a few minutes. Perhaps was overstimulated. Then as I walked by her kennel just now she reached through the cage and tried to scratch me and then growled for several minutes aferward. It was completely unprovoked. Recommend no out of kennel interactions.
KNOWN HISTORY:
Pretzel was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
03/13/18
Very sweet. Easily handle able. Did well for all medical handling and procedures
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
03/13/18
Crouched in front of kennel, ears forward and eyes alert. She steps forward and greets me with a head-butt as I open reach towards her. Allows all petting while leaning in and raising her tail. Doing well after first day!
Cage Condition:
Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:
Pretzel comes forward with a relaxed body and greets the assessor at the door.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Pretzel rubs up against the cage furnishings and rolls over on her side.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Pretzel remains calm.
Reaction to touch:
Pretzel sniffs the assessor, then rubs up against his hand and gives head butts. She rolls around playfully, appreciates attention and her tail flicks slightly with every soft pass along her body. She lip licks occasionally throughout the session and is very tolerant of handling, but seems to get overstimulated when interacted with for an extended period of time.
Reaction to being picked up:
Pretzel was a bit tense when picked up, but she remains calm and allows all handling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Moderate
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Calm
Affectionate
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Overstimulation
Potential challenges comments:
Pretzel is social and affectionate but appears to show signs of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Pretzel becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experience
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Pretzel interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. Due to Pretzel becoming overstimulated with extensive handling, we recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
