Memo is shy and a bit upset and who could blame him after his world was turned upside down. He does allow gentle petting and needs a place to relax and regroup. KNOWN HISTORY: Memo was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on his behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. He was very shy during intake and was nervous when taken out of his carrier, trying to get back inside. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – initially allowed exam but became irate with restraint–hissing, growling EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Memo was lying down, looking out, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Memo looks at the assessor and then turns away to place his head down to rest. Reaction to cage door opening: Memo remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Memo sniffs the assessor’s hand and accepts petting. He appears indifferent and places his head down while the assessor continues to pet him gently on his head and body. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Calm RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Memo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
