JUJU – A1081670
Gone - 7-20-2016 Manhattan
**GONE 07/20/16** JUJU is a 15 year old senior boy looking for a place to rest in the sun. He was turned in by his former owner for personal problems. This wasn’t his first home and he’s hoping the ACC won’t be his last. He’s an independent cat who likes to do things at his own pace. Sometimes in his former home they would bother him, not having any respect for his age. He did nip one of them but probably as a last resort because he can’t say, “leave me alone while I eat!” So, now he finds himself homeless and on the TBD list tonight. Please hear his plea and apply to adopt or foster this older gent tonight!

07/18/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/18/16 18:12 BASIC INFO Juju is a 15 year old neutered DSH cat. His original owner moved and gave him to a store. The store wasn’t allowed to keep them. His current owner took him in 1 year ago but can’t keep him due to personal problems/family change. Juju vomits partially broken down food once every few days. He stopped grooming himself. He had hip surgery in his original home and walks with an irregular gait. He’s declawed in the front. SOCIALIZATION Juju is reserved. He mostly stays to himself; he doesn’t approach strangers but doesn’t hide either. He lived with a 9 year old child and adults. He would allow his family members to pet him for a few strokes and then would sometimes bite them. He bit his adult female owner ~4 times and the child about 2 times, only breaking skin once. He bites their hands once, quickly. They pull their hand away and he walks away. He usually allows more petting when he approaches them. He does head butt them so they feel he’s soliciting attention. He’s bit when they pet him while he was resting and while he was active. Once, he was on the washing machine where he eats. His owner pet him and he leaned in to bite her. She turned around and he bit the back of her arm (no broken skin). He hasn’t bit anyone in the past 10 days. Juju lived with a small dog. He walked by him slowly while meowing. If the dog approached him, he hissed. He hasn’t bit/scratched the dog. BEHAVIOR Juju is nervous in the car. He struggles when put into a carrier. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Juju’s family describes him as friendly, independent, mellow, talkative, and low energy. He spends most of his time in the kitchen sleeping. Sometimes, he sits next to his owners. He lived inside and slept on a pillow. He ate Friskies shredded tuna wet food and won’t eat much of other foods. He used an uncovered litterbox with clumping litter. He had an accident outside of the box about once per month. He would go potty #1 or #2 within 1 foot of the box. His owner suspects that the box was possibly dirty. INTAKE Juju was friendly during intake but resisting, growling, and swatting during his medical exam. I visited him for pictures and he was lying down, soft bodied. He looked at me while I took pictures. When I extended my hand, he leaned in and sniffed me.

07/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Juju’s former owner stated he is reserved. He mostly stays to himself; he doesn’t approach strangers, but doesn’t hide either. He lived with a 9 year old child and adults. Juju lived with a small dog. He walked by him slowly while meowing. If the dog approached him, he hissed. Reaction to assessor: Juju looks neutral, lying down on his cage bedding when approached by the assessor. Reaction to door opening: Juju remains in place, relaxed body posture, alert with soft eyes. Reaction to touch: Juju stands with tail up, leans into the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body. Reaction to Being Picked up: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage. Placement determination: Juju interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting, at the shelter. However, with the previous owner Juju solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body he begans to nip at them. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents due to past incidents with the previous owner.
