HECTOR was brought in by a neighbor when owner died – came in with 3 other housemates – friendly and already neutered but his stay at the shelter has made him a bit nervous – needs an experienced cat “purrson” to help him decompress and relax again! MUST RESERVE BY NOON!!

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 04/26/2017 from NY 10458, owner surrender reason stated was OWNER DIED. I came in with Group/Litter #K17-095255.

04/26/17 19:05 Basic information: Hector was brought in as a stray. The finder found Hector in an apartment building, the finder placed Hector in a cat carrier and brought Hector to the shelter. No other information could be provided during intake. Intake Behavior: During intake Hector had tense, stiff body. Hector would retreat from extended. Hector eventually allowed to be scanned (negative), collared, pictured, and placed in a cat kennel.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Curious, Skittish MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 4/27/17- Observed Behavior – shy/nervous but sweet EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Hector hisses and looks tense, sitting upright at the back of the cage. Reaction to cage door opening: Hector stiffens up, alert with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Hector accepts the stroke, but becomes anxious with ears to the side and eyes wandering. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.

History : owner reportedly passed away; brought in with 3 other cats by neighbor Subjective: QAR Observed Behavior – shy/nervous but sweet; very easy to handle and examine Evidence of Cruelty seen – none Evidence of Trauma seen – none Objective T = not taken P = WNL R = WNL BCS 8/9 EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal discharge noted AS- poly at external ear canal with mild lichenification and multiple small (<.5 cm), raised, pigmented lesions along lateral aspect of pinna/external ear-suspect due to chronic inflammation; horizontal canal is mod inflamed with mild erythema and brown waxy discharge Oral Exam: mild hypersalivation-may be secondary to anxiety; mm pk, moist; CRT <2 sec; mod staining on teeth; no oral ulcerations or other abnormalities PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: neutered MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: not performed Assessment 1. otitis externa with polyp/chronic changes 2. hypersalivation-r/o nervous vs nausea vs oral discomfort/injury vs other Plan tresaderm AS SID x 10 days rec’d weight loss with dietary management monitor for continued hypersalivation/inappetance/vomiting Prognosis: good SURGERY: neutered
