I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 06/24/2017 from NY 11208, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

06/30/17 Recheck abcess – finished course of augmentin, received convenia on intake S/O: QARH. Allows handling but appears nervous, hides on back of cage EENT: Eyes clear, no ocular or nasal discharge HL: Normal thoracic auscultation ABD: Soft, non tender INTEG: Firm swelling cranial to left shoulder, softer at medial aspect over chest MS: Left front lameness UG: Neutered FNA of site did not reveal any fluid or discharge A: Abscess noted on intake 6/24/17 – clipped, cleaned, debrided and closed that day. Possible foreign body seen in wound, not appreciated on xray review, marked soft tissue swelling at time of xrays that has not improved with antibiotics P: Adding pradofloxacin 1.1ml PO q24 x 7 days. Soft tissue swelling not improving as expected and may require additional surgical intervention. Good prognosis with appropriate treatment and management

KNOWN HISTORY: Han was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Nervous but not mean, escaped when attempted to place IVC but never attempted to bite and was easy to catch. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Han was curled up tight on his blanket at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Han perks up, his ears rotate and he watches the assessor with soft eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Han meows softly and remains still. Reaction to touch: Han seems a little hesitant and lowered his body when the assessor extended his hand out. His body perks up when touched; he rubs up for attention and allows petting all over his body. Reaction to being picked up: Han was a bit tense when picked up but allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Easy going, Affectionate BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Han interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 1 year Microchip noted on Intake? no History: found stray non-ambulatory on LF, finder suspected HBC Subjective: QAR, 5% dehydrated, healthy hair coat, pus in carrier Observed Behavior – nervous but not mean, escaped when attempted to place IVC but never attempted to bite and was easy to catch Evidence of Cruelty seen – none Evidence of Trauma seen – none Objective T = 106.3 P = 240 R = 60 (nervous) BCS 4/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: no dental tartar or gingivitis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT 2 sec, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: intact male, two testicles MSI: Non-weightbearing left fore, skin free of parasites, healthy hair coat, 5 cm abscess with purulent discharge on the left chest medial to the left fore. All long bones and joints palpate WNL with no pain or reduced range of motion. CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: abscess on left chest – possible cat bite Plan: sedated clip and clean this afternoon. Will place catheter at that time and maintain on IVF at 9 mL/hr. Start amoxi-clav 1.1 mL PO BID x 14 days. Simbadol 0.5 mL SQ once today; reassess pain tomorrow. Prognosis: good SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to abscess/fever
