***SAFE 05/25/16*** BETRAYED BY HIS OWNERS AND LEFT TO DIE! Goldie’s photo is heart breaking. This 4 year old NEUTERED orange tabby doesn’t understand why he’s been brought back to the shelter after 2 years at “home.” He was adopted out from the ACC 2 years ago you see, and lived the good life in a home where he enjoyed his favorite cat nip toys and played nicely with the family dog. Now his ex-owners have dumped him off again because they are moving and “can’t” take him with them! Ridiculous! Goldie is afraid at the shelter. He’s been here before, and he knows what happens to most of the animals who come through those doors: they don’t make it back out. He’s been given an EXPNOCHILD rating. He allowed handling, but didn’t like his little fanny touched and swatted at the assessor. In true ACC fashion, they want to give Goldie a bad rap as a “mean kitty” and END HIS LIFE AT NOON TOMORROW! It’s funny, because his previous owners described him as friendly and noted his tendency to follow them around the house looking for attention. Goldie was lucky enough to make it out once, can you make it happen again? He needs someone to let him know he’ll never have to go back to a shelter again. Please advocate for this scared boy NOW! His last hours are slipping away, don’t let the ACC deny him a chance at a REAL furr-ever home!

05/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owners, Goldie is friendly around strangers, plays gently with adults and is relaxes and gentle around children. He has not been introduced to other cats and has lived with a female dog and was affectionate towards them. He enjoys being picked up and held and isn’t bothered when being placed in a carrier. Goldie normally scratches on furniture or his vertical scratching post made of carpet. Reaction to assessor: Goldie meows softly and brushes up against the kennel door. Reaction when softly spoken to: Goldie’s eyes are dilated and she continues to solicit attention. Reaction to cage door opening: Goldie is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Goldie allows petting on his head and along most of his body and continues to rub against my hand. When touched on his lower back he whips around quickly, hisses and raises his paw as a warning to stop. He low growls as I back away then stays at the back of the kennel. Goldie is reported to have a history of scratching the furniture, and should go to a home that can safely cat-proof couches in the home. We advise future adopters to make sure to provide mentally and physically stimulating toys to keep Goldie occupied when left alone. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Goldie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
