A1121841 Circe – Circe is at-risk with an adult only determination. She immediately approaches the front of her kennel and starts soliciting petting and attention. Although she seems to appreciate petting and rubs against the assessor, she appears to get overstimulated with extended interactions and will hiss and retreat to avoid further contact. 08/13/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/13/17 19:22 Basic Information: Circe is a 3 year old spayed Black cat that has no current medical issues that the finder is aware of. Finder found Circe in the house that she moved into. It is speculated that the cat was left behind when the previous residents moved out. Finder kept Circe in her basement and wanted to attempt to keep her but she and the pets the finder already owned did not get along. Socialization: According to the finder, around strangers, Circe is fearful. Around adults, Circe is affectionate and plays in a gentle manner. Circe was not exposed to any children. Around other cats (both spayed & neutered), Circe was tolerant and just ignored the other cats. Around a medium size dog, Circe hisses, swats, and growls at the dog. She has never bitten a person or another animal before but she has broken the dog’s skin by scratching. Behavior: Finder stated that Circe does not have any behavioral or litterbox issues. Finder did not bath or trim Circe’s nails so it is unknown how she would react to these grooming agents. Circe isn’t bothered by having her coat brushed. Circe allows being picked up and held but only for a short period of time, she will attempt to struggle free when she has had enough. Circe struggled when being put into a carrier and she meows during the car ride. For a New Family to Know: Circe is described as affectionate, assertive, & independent with a low activity level. When in the home, Circe is the type to rarely be seen and stays hidden. She likes to play with mice. Finder kept her indoors and appeared litter box trained. Circe used an uncovered litter box and clumping litter. She was fed Science Diet, Friskies & Iams dry and wet cat food. She does not like fish flavor and will only eat Pate Circe also used a scratching post made of smooth wood.

08/21/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Circe was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: friendly EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Circe immediately came to the front of her kennel and made eye contact with the assessor. Circe began purring and meowing while rubbing her body along her kennel door. Reaction when softly spoken to: Circe continues to meow and purr. Her tail is erect and her ears are up and tilted forward. She continues walking back and forth while rubbing her body along the kennel door. Reaction to cage door opening: Circe remains in the front of her kennel soliciting attention. Reaction to touch: Circe leans in for chin rubs and head butts assessors hand. She allows petting all over and loves attention. After an extended period of time Circe becomes overstimulated as she hisses and retreats to the back of her kennel. When kennel door is shut, Circe comes forward to solicit attention through the kennel door. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively, Moderate VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Independent, Affectionate, Bold POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation- Circe is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Circe becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only- Circe solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly. Due to Circe easily getting overstimulated, we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home.
