12/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brooks was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He was tense and attempted to flee upon intake when attempting to transfer him into another carrier. He retreated to the back of his carrier when approached. The medical team reports he displayed distance-increasing behaviors when attempting to restrain during his initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Brooks was lying down with his paws tucked under his body, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Brooks looks up and his eyes soften, blinking slowly. Reaction to cage door opening: Brooks becomes alert, looking out at the opening. Reaction to touch: Brooks sniffs the assessor’s hand when extended, but hisses when petting was attempted. He allows the assessor to pet him gently on his head and body, but turns his head to face away from the assessor and stress meows. Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Brooks tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
