SAFE 8/4/17 Brent is an adorable kitten who is about 5-6 weeks old. He has no motor activity in his hind legs and may have suffered some kind of spinal trauma to cause this. He has no fractures but needs x-rays and further medical eval. The shelter is saying if his sensory fuction does not improve they will recommend euth. Please help this little guy.

Medical Summary DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 4-6 weeks based on overall appearance Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg on intake History : Left in a box outside, no hx. Subjective: Mews, moves around, allows all handling. Evidence of Trauma seen – Paraparesis Objective BAR-H, MMs pink and moist, BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: Deciduous teeth PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: Eupnic, not ausculted ABD: Slightly distended, non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male intact kitten MSI: Paresis in both hind legs – some muscle tone but no conscious motor activity. Significant muscle wasting in both hind legs and pelvis. No fractures, crepitus, instability or other problems noted in the legs or pelvis. No masses noted, healthy hair coat. CNS: Mentation appropriate. No conscious motor activity in the hind legs. Flexor withdrawal is present in both hind legs; pt does not appear to have conscious sensation of pain in the hind legs. Good anal tone. Large firm stool in the anus – pt excreted it with some assistive pressure on the perianal region. Rectal: Good anal tone. Assessment: Paresis in hind legs – no conscious motor or sensation but reflexes intact. No fractures noted. Suspect spinal trauma in the T3-L3 region. Plan: Supportive care, monitor for improvement. Spinal rads later today. Prognosis: Poor. If there is ANY improvement in motor or sensory function within 24-48 hours, there is a better prognosis; if there is no improvement, I would consider EHR. 1088
