11/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Amethyst was relaxed and confident at the front of the kennel with his tail erect. Reaction when softly spoken to: Amethyst reaches out with paws then gently brushes up against the kennel door. Reaction to cage door opening: Amethyst moves back and becomes alert. Reaction to touch: Amethyst seems unsure at first then leans forward to sniff the assessor’s hand. He warms up quickly, allows petting up over, and leans in gently when rubbed. His body relaxes when pet along his body, he brushes up against the assessor’s hand and he gives soft head butts. He is confident at the front but tends to lean away and lip lick from time to time and he can get startled by background noise. Reaction to being picked up: Amethyst is tense when picked up, gets antsy and struggles to be put down. Behavior Determination: Experience Amethyst may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents and any adopter with young children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting. 11/09/16 Amethyst was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. Reaction to assessor: Amethyst was hiding inside his feral den at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Amethyst makes eye contact through the den’s air hole, stress meows and doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Reaction to cage door opening: Amethyst lies motionless. Reaction to touch: Amethyst seems unsure of contact and slowly leans forward to look at the assessor. He squints, leans back and lip licks when the assessor extends his hand and moves away from contact. He flinches when touched, looks around at his surroundings and appears uncomfortable during the interaction. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Amethyst tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
