Zuzu A1116426 – 13 week old female gray kitten, stray:
DVM Intake Exam
Estimated age: 13 weeks
Microchip noted on Intake? no
History : found stray, finder surrendered because of urinary/fecal incontinence
Subjective: BAR, euhydrated, good BCS, no tail
Observed Behavior – very sweet, inquisitive, allows all handling
Evidence of Cruelty seen – none
Evidence of Trauma seen – none
Objective
BCS 6/9
EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted
Oral Exam: first two deciduous incisors missing
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated, bladder small, no palpable stool in colon but on arrival had formed stool and copious diarrhea on the perineum
U/G: female, vulva very swollen with urine scald
MSI: Ambulatory x 4 but bunny-hopping gait in the hind, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat
CNS: mentation appropriate. Perineal reflex absent bilaterally.
Assessment: manx abnormality – paraparetic, urinary and fecal incontinent with no hope of recovery. No signs of bladder rupture, colon rupture, or chronic constipation at this time.
Plan: seek New Hope placement with the understanding that kitten will always be urinary and fecal incontinent and no treatment will resolve it. Kitten will need extensive nursing care daily to prevent skin infection from urine/fecal scald and will be prone to UTIs for life. Kitten’s lifespan will almost certainly be shortened due to recurrent UTIs/resultant kidney injury and/or chronic constipation that may develop and will not be resolvable. EHR recommended if no placement. While placement pending, apply SSD to perineum and clean daily.
Prognosis: poor
SURGERY: Okay for surgery
