*** SAFE 10/22/16 *** LAST NIGHT WE WERE INTRODUCED TO ZION, ZARIA’S BROTHER AND THEIR UNCARING FORMER OWNER…..Zion is currently in unknown status. ZARIA is ZION’s sister and she is also being pushed out for a new baby even though she and Zion already live with a six month old and get along great with kids of all ages…As with ZION, ZARIA is NEW HOPE rated…..she was found as a stray kitten 10 years ago and this is the only home she has known….Is it any wonder she is feeling betrayed?? ZARIA is already SPAYED and just needs time to decompress and feel safe and loved again. But you know she won’t get that at the ACC……PLEASE HELP THIS WONDERFUL CAT FIND A NEW AND LOVING HOME!! I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 10/14/2016 from NY 10451, owner surrender reason stated was NEW BABY. I came in with Group/Litter #K16-077937.

10/19/2016 Exam Type RE-EXAM – Medical Rating is 3 NC – MAJOR CONDITIONS NOT CONTAGIOUS, Behavior Rating is NONE, Weight 14.6 LBS.
10/19/16 15:10 VC: Geriatric exam re-check. (Housed below and aggressive cat who may have made Zaria more upset/ aggressive for previous exam.) S) Needed to go slow for exam – tried to bite once but warms up to you. More amenable to exam when offered canned food – great appetite. Normal UR and BM in cage. O) QARH. MM pk. EENT: Nuclear sclerosis but PLR + and clr otherwise. Ears cln. NND. Oral – limited exam – mod tartar but no pain noted. MSI: BCS = 6/9, slightly overweight. Amb x 4. Good haircoat. CV: HR= 200, nsr, nm. L: clr bilat and eup. Abd: SNP, NMP but a little tense when touched on caudal half. A) Geriatric – generally healthy but moderate ddz. P) No tx needed. Monitor ddz when adopted/ placed. 10/16/16 unable to do exam due to aggression. visual exam cat appears healthy. 10/14/16 scan negative moderate dental tartar ear mite negative flea comb negative- treated with activyl GERIATRIC overweight spayed-scar seen slight nervous during exam

10/14/16 15:50 Basic Information Zaria is a 10 year old spayed domestic short hair who is being surrendered because owner has a 6 month old baby and another on the way. Owner stated she lives in a one bedroom and this is not sufficient space for her growing family and two cats. Owner found her cats as strays 10 years ago. She is not aware of any health problems and her pets last saw a vet in 2006. Socialization Zaria does not tolerate being touch by strangers and will hiss. She lives with a 6 month old baby and has spent time with children of all ages. She is respectful and tolerant with the kids. She plays in an exuberant and gentle manner with adults. She does not play with kids. She lived with her brother; he is the same age as Zaria. They were relaxed and respectful with each other. They played in a somewhat rough manner. She has never lived or spent time with dogs or any other kind of animal. She has never bitten a person or animal. Behavior Zaria will scratch on towels that are hanging in the bathroom. She is always cleaning her fur. Zaria likes to be petted on her own terms. She is not bothered by car rides. Owner gives Zaria a bath and trims her nails 2 to 3 times a week. Zaria tolerates bathing and having her nails trimmed. She struggles when you brush her coat. She enjoys being placed in a carrier and being picked up. She is not bothered if disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know Zaria is described as friendly, playful, talkative, and affectionate with a low activity level. She will make sounds when someone sneezes. She likes to watch birds and squirrels from the window seal. She likes to be in her favorite spot when home. She likes to play with all kind of cat toys. She also plays with pipe cleaners and Q-tips. She was kept indoors only and slept on the couch or on owner’s bed by their feet. She was fed dry cat food, Merrick Perfect bistro grain free chicken, 1/2 cup twice a day. Her favorite treat is vanilla ice cream. She uses a hooded cat litter box with fresh step extreme cat litter in it. She scratches on a scratching post made out of cardboard and rug. She also scratches on towels that hang. Behavior during Intake Zaria tolerated all handling. No signs of aggression were displayed. She quickly went back into her carrier once her photo shoot was done.

As per previous owner, Zaria does not tolerate being touched by strangers and will hiss. She lives with a 6 month old baby and has spent time with children of all ages. She is respectful and tolerant with the kids. She plays in an exuberant and gentle manner with adults. She does not play with kids. She lived with her brother and they were relaxed and respectful with each other. They played in a somewhat rough manner. She has never lived or spent time with dogs or any other kind of animal. She has never bitten a person or animal. Reaction to assessor: Zaria hisses and growls at the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Zaria continues to hiss and growl. Reaction to cage door opening: Zaria retreats. Reaction to touch: Zaria hisses, growls, and swats at the assessor. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Zaria is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
