08/19/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/19/17 11:33 Yum Yum is a 11 month old female brown tabby domestic shorthair cat who is being surrendered because the owner has to leave his home. Yum Yum has been with the family for 8 months. Yum lived with 6 adult humans and 1 other adult cat. Yum Yum also had a litter of kittens. Yum is receptive to the owner and enjoys petting but prefers not to be picked up. Yum is described to be somewhat indifferent to the other humans in the home and does not seek interaction but does not flee either. When visitors come to the home Yum will walk away but is not defensive. Yum has been exposed to small children and allows petting. Yum is receptive to the other cat in the home with chasing games and some wrestling, owner says they like to frolic. Yum uses an open litter box with clay in it. Yum has had a bath once and allowed it but did not enjoy it. She enjoys brushing and is easily placed in a carrier. Yum has not been in a car but was good for a subway ride the vet. At the vet she allows handling. She enjoys playing with string toys with owner and likes to retrieve thrown toys to the owner. Yum does not have a scratching post but does not scratch anything in the home. Yum is allowed to go into the yard and will scratch a tree there. When the owner is home she will go where he is but since having her litter she attends to them. When home alone she is well behaved. Yum enjoys both wet and dry food. Upon intake Yum was receptive to introduction and allowed all handling but was slighlty nervous with wide eyes. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Yum was easily replaced to the carrier.

08/22/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Indoor and outdoor cat Previously lived with: 6 Adults and 1 other adult cat Behavior toward strangers: Somewhat indifferent and doesn’t seek attention. Behavior toward children: She’s been around small children and allows them to pet her Behavior toward cats: Relaxed and playful Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Other notes: Enjoys being brushed and is easily placed in a carrier. She plays with toys and likes to go outside and scratch on the trees. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very sweet but nervous. Easily handle able and easy to pick up. Did well for all medical handling and procedures ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/20/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel. Eyes wide. She tolerates petting along briefly before retreating through her portal with a low body, tail down. Not comfortable enough to eat treats in front of me yet, but she does begin to eat them as soon as I shut the cage door. 08/21/17 Sitting crouched in center of kennel. Makes eye contact and watches me as I unlock the kennel door. She retreats through her portal when I reach towards her. I hold out some treats which she sniffs but she isn’t comfortable enough to eat them in front of me. She retreats through her portal again, tail down and body low, when I attempt to pet her one more time. Not interested in further interaction today. 08/22/17 Crouched in the back of the cage with her tail wrapped around her body. Her eyes dart around and she lip licks when spoken to softly. She becomes alert and tenses up when I open the door. Timid and leans away when I extend my hand forward. She slinks away and dodges my hand when attempting to pet her. Tail tucked under her body, ears bend slightly, constantly lip licking. She tolerates very slow pets on her head. She shifts away and curls up when she’s done interacting. I offered her some tuna but she didn’t seem interested. Needs more time to adjust. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Yum Yum has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Yum Yum may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
