SAFE 9/2/17 This litter of tabbies (YURI, YARA & YIRA) are a bit on the shy side, though Yara hasn’t warmed up quite and much as her siblings at the Brooklyn Care Center.

MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat
CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities

SURGERY: Okay for surgery
08/31/17:
Pre-surgical exam, anesthesia, and surgery performed by ASPCA. Green linear tattoo placed on ventral abdomen.
Behavior::
KNOWN HISTORY:
Yara was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Timid, allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
08/30/17
Huddled in back of kennel next to siblings. Hisses. Tolerates petting while leaning head away to avoid touch and squinting eyes closed. Body is tense and tail is wrapped around feet. Needs more time to adjust.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: No change
Reaction to assessor: Yara crouched at the back of the kennel with wide eyes watching the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Yara turns towards the assessor and slow blinks.
Reaction to cage door opening: Yara remains motionless.
Reaction to touch: Yara leans away and tries to dodge the assessor when he extends his hand out. She tolerates petting, has a tense body and stays near the back of the kennel where she feels comfortable.
Reaction to being picked up: Yara was a bit tense when picked up, but remained calm and allowed all handling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Timid
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced cat parent – Yara may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
