MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
01/28/18
Shy/timid, allows all handling with minimal restraint, allows pets, licks lips
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
01/29/18
Lying in back of kennel with a tense body and face. Makes and maintains eye contact when spoken to, then tolerates slow and gentle petting along head and body while remaining very still and flattening ears. Needs more time to adjust.
01/30/18
Lying in back of kennel, body tense and ears forward. Makes eye contact. She sniffs the bear-claw as I reach towards her and tolerates petting along her head and down her shoulders. Once the bear-claw passes along her back she turns her head and hisses, ears flattening, then yawns and stretches out towards me. Sniffs the treats I place next to her but is too focused on me to eat them during our interaction. I see her eating them as I pass by her cage a couple of minutes later. Unsure, needs time to adjust.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Xenon was tense, wary and crouched on top her kuranda bed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Xenon’s ears tilt forward and she looks over at the assessor with wide, dilated eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Xenon lip licks and slowly looks around her kennel, scanning her surroundings.
Reaction to touch:
Xenon rises up slowly and keeps her eyes hyper focused on the assessor’s movements. She sniffs his hand and tolerates slow gentle petting on her head for a short period of time before vocalizing. The end of her tail starts to flicker and she hisses when she’s had enough attention.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Timid
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Xenon has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Xenon tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
