Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Xena is described as shy around strangers and takes a few minutes to warm up to new people. She has lived with one adult in the home. She has not been around other cats, children or dogs. The previous owner also stated Xena will urinate outside the litter box when she is upset. Reaction to assessor: Xena comes to the front of the cage rubbing against the cage door When spoken quietly: Xena stays at front continues soliciting attention Reaction to door cage opening: Xena remains soft & relaxed Reaction to touch: Xena meows at the assessor as she walks around the cage but she allows petting and attention Try picking cat up: Xena is not tolerant of this type of handling. She becomes tense and tries to nip Behavior Determination: Experience Xena was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment she was displaying friendly behavior, comes to the front of the kennel, interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention and tolerates all petting. Xena does not like being being picked up. She will become tense and attempt to nip. Xena is displaying behavior appropriate for an experience cat owner.
