SAFE 6/13/17 A volunteer writes: When I opened Wembly’s condo, I was greeted by a giant sleepy marshmallow. Wanting heaps of attention, this beautiful boy looked at me with the sweetest and saddest eyes that seemed to say, “Please, just take me home.” This handsome chunk no sooner sprang to life with a heap of head butts and a want to take over my lap for the day. If only I could spend my days with a dreamy Wembley curled in my lap, then life would be that much sweeter. If you are looking for an older mellow boy with an endless supply of affection and need for loving attention, please come visit Wembly at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. He will likely be waiting at the front of his condo with his fur face pressed against the front door. Another volunteer writes: Ahh Wembly! Here’s a very, very special one indeed. He’s a mini, all-white polar bear who just wants to love and be loved. Have you seen the video of him sprawled out in a volunteer’s lap? That’s what you’re missing. I found him in his cubby the other day sleeping so soundly that he didn’t notice I had opened his door. So I gave him a gentle poke (I had to give him a second one), and he leapt up, turned around and flopped down ready for petting and purring. This fluffy snowball has a date with your lap, so don’t be late. Yet another volunteer writes: When you look at this beautiful white snow ball, you become attracted to Wembly! He has the cutest pink ears! He loves to be stroked , especially by his ears. He is very curious about everything! He is so mellow. Don’t look at the numbers. Middle age is when we find ourselves. Wembly has many years of love and affection to give. Come to the Manhattan Animal Care Center and meet your new forever friend!
***Meet Wembly: Wembly is a mature gentle cat that is tranquil and affectionate. He likes to be pet and cared for, but also likes being independent. He is currently looking for a home where he can get the right amount of love and affection. Can you help this guy find a home?

Behavior:
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet
KNOWN HISTORY:
Lived Indoors
Previously lived with: an adult
Behavior toward strangers: shy and will hide, sometimes he will come out and will be affectionate
Behavior toward children: fearful but respectful
Behavior toward cats: respectful of most; He gets into tiffs with some of the cats, but not serious ones.
Litter box training: yes, but had some accidents in the past 3-4 months at the home (possibly because he lived with numerous cats in the home) The cat’s previous owner reports that he was eliminating outside the litterbox, but we are unaware of what, if any, modification steps were taken to try and address this behavior. Please note as well that Wembly previous living situation may have contributed to the behavior seen: cat previously lived in a home with numerous cats. We cannot be sure whether this behavior will continue in a different home environment, but we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litterbox should this behavior continue in a home environment. We also recommend that Wembly be provided with numerous litterboxes throughout the house as he adjusts to his/her new living space. The extra boxes can be removed as he learns the space and successfully defecates in his main litterbox.
Other notes: affectionate, friendly, fearful, confident and independent at home. His activity level is low
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
5/16/17- Laying at front, head down, eyes half closed, grumbling quietly. Became extremely combative when given food by staff. Started screaming and striking. Eventually settled in litter box, still grumbling. Flattened ears, hissed, and deep growled when door opened during later visit.
5/17/17- Huge improvement! Asleep in litter box on approach. Woke, stretched, and started cheek-rubbing cage furnishings when spoken to, soft eyes and body. Briefly distracted by treats, then paused in eating in order to lean and arch into pets. Really likes throat scratches. Stayed at the front after door closed, rubbed against the bars.
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: No change
Reaction to assessor: Wembly is soft and relaxed, soliciting attention.
Reaction to cage door opening: Wembly engages the front, alert with soft eyes.
Reaction to touch: Wembly leans into the assessor’s hand, purrs, and appreciates the petting.
Reaction to being picked up: He briefly allows the pickup then calmly walks back into the cage.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average
Wembly interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
Profile:
Basic:
Wembly is a 10 year old neutered DSH. His owner got him off the street when he was living at a bodega and has had him for 7 years. His owner has to surrender because building residents have complained about a cat smell. He has not had any injuries or health problems while with his owner, however he has been urinating and defecating outside of the box for the past 3-4 months. He has not been to the vet in a while.
Socialization:
Around strangers Wembly is shy and will hide, sometimes he will come out and will be affectionate. He has spent time around children aged 3, and with them is fearful but respectful. He doesn’t play with adults or children. He has spent time with numerous cats in the home, all different ages and genders and is respectful of most. He gets into tiffs with some of the cats, but not serious ones. He plays gently with other cats. He has not been around other pets. He bit his owner many years ago when his owner got in between Wembly and another cat at home who were growling and biting one another. Neither cat needed veterinary care and his owner treated her bite at home.
Behavior:
Apart from going outside the box, Wembly is well behaved. He has never been in a car. He has litter box problems a few times per week and poops and pees outside of it. This has been going on for 3-4 months, the owner does not know why and he has not been to a vet for it. His owner has never bathed, brushed, or trimmed his nails. He likes being picked up and held, and isn’t bothered when disturbed while resting. He struggles when being put into a soft carrier.
For New Family:
Wembly is affectionate, friendly, fearful, confident and independent at home. His activity level is low and his owner loves how much he loves to cuddle with them in bed. He loves to sunbathe. At home, Whembly can be found in his favorite spot. He was been kept indoors only and sleeps with the owner in bed. He eats both wet and dry food 1xday. He likes Temptation Treats. He uses a covered litterbox with clumping litter and scratches on the furniture. He had a vertical rope scratching post, but it was never replaced.
During intake Wembly was friendly and allowed all collaring and handling. He allowed the counselor to look in his mouth and the scratch him under the chin, and while scratching. Wembly pressed his body against the counselor’s and rolled over exposing his belly.
