*** SAFE 02/24/16 *** WONDERFUL 5 YEAR OLD WAFFLE LOVES TO GIVE KISSES, PLAY FETCH, AND CHASE THE LASER POINTER – YET BECAUSE OF UNKNOWN LITTERBOX ISSUES HE IS BEING KILLED AT NOON TUESDAY!! WAFFLE sounds like the most lovable, playful cat in the world! His ex-owner claims to have taken him to the vet to see why he has accidents with his litterbox use. Sadly, he decided to give up on this cat and dumped him at the ACC. The vet said he was marking his territory but this boy is already neutered!! It may be that he just doesn’t like the type of cat litter or the box is not in the best place for this cat to use. Or maybe the owner doesn’t clean it enough? It’s anybody’s guess. But if you read about WAFFLE he certainly deserves a chance to have a home and not be sent to his death at noon! WAFFLE has some dental issues but is otherwise healthy. He lived with children and adults and was playful and gentle with them. PLEASE GIVE WAFFLE A DEATH ROW PARDON TONIGHT – HE DESERVES A HAPPY ENDING TO HIS STORY.

02/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Waffle’s previous owner reports he is calm, friendly, and outgoing. He has lived with a 6 year old child and is relaxed and affectionate around the child. He plays gently with both adults and children. Around his sister, he is affectionate and gentle. He enjoys having his coat brushed and being picked up and held. The family described him as friendly, talkative, and affectionate. He loves to give kisses and is unique for being able to retrieve items such as socks and balls. They believe he will do best in a family home with older children. Reaction to assessor: Waffle was lying down by the back, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Waffle averts his gaze and ignores the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Waffle becomes stiff and alert, shifting his body slightly. Reaction to touch: Waffle lowers his head and lip licks. He closes his eyes and allows petting on his head and body, but he lip licks and has a tense body. Waffle’s previous owners report that he has been urinating outside the litter box for 1-3 years daily. He was seen by a veterinarian and has no known medical issues. We are unaware of what, if any, modifications steps were taken to try and address this behavior in the home, so we cannot be sure what the trigger may have been or if this behavior may continue in a future home. However, we recommend that potential adopters be comfortable with management and modification techniques for elimination outside the litter box should this behavior continue in a home environment. Placement Determination: Experience Waffle tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
