***SAFE 09/30/17*** STUNNING TUXIE GIRL VIOLET IS PERFECTLY HEALTHY. She was trapped and brought in to the shelter. She is about a year old and not very happy about being there. I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 09/23/2017 from NY 10307, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

A1126397 Violet is at-risk with a NHO determination. She displays fearful behavior and does not appear to be thriving in the stressful shelter environment. She remains hidden when approached and stiffens up in place. When petting is attempted, she tries to flee to avoid contact and does not allow handling at this moment.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Skittish, Independent MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/23/17- Observed Behavior – swatted and hissed in back of cage ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/24/17 Hiding inside cat den, stiff and alert. Looks at me with dilated eyes through hole in the den and shifts away to avoid contact when hand extends. He doesn’t vocalize or show distance-increasing behaviors, but shifts deeper into the den and is extremely tense. Not ready to interact yet. 9/25/17 In den on approach, peeking through holes, eyes dilated, whiskers forward. Turned to look briefly when given treats, but wouldn’t come out. Shifted back slightly when offered assess-a-hand. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Violet remains tense, hiding in the cat den during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Violet shows no interest and remains immobile. Reaction to cage door opening: Violet stiffens up in place, alert with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Violet avoids contact and attempts to escape the cage. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Violet is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
