I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 08/12/2017 from NY 10473, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

A1121755 Veronica – Adult only determination; Veronica displays fearful behavior in the shelter environment and will curl her body up tightly when approached for interactions. She tolerates gentle petting, but she attempts to shift away to avoid further contact and appears very uncomfortable.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – quiet, allowed handling when scruffed, tries to flee, hisses but did not try to strike or bite ENRICHMENT NOTES: 8/13/17- Laying at back, eyes dilated, whiskers forward. Lay in place when pet, slowly looked around. No real response. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Veronica remains tense, tightly curled up at the back during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Veronica stiffens up, alert with eyes dilated, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Veronica accepts the stroke while distance increases and head turns away from the assessor’s hand with no further interest. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Veronica may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
