Basic Information:
Vasya is an 8 year old neutered male DSH. Vasya had a urinary blockage in 2012 for which he has surgery for but has been healthy since. Owner had Vasya for 6 years but had to surrender due to a new baby in the home.
Socialization:
According to the owner, around strangers Vasya is friendly. As per owner, he becomes over stimulated fast when being given too much attention and becomes mouthy. He has been around an 11 y/o child & owner stated that Vasya was always friendly and interactive with the child and would follow the child around the home. Owner did not have any other pets in the home so behavior is unknown. Vasya has never bit another animal or person while in the care of the owner.
Behavior:
When in the car, Vasya will meow. Owner has never tried to bathe him, trim his nails or brush his coat so behavior is unknown, Vasya is nervous when being picked up/held or being put into a carrier and will try to run away.
For a New Family to Know:
Vasya is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow, shy around new people and quiet. He has a low activity level & prefers to lounge around instead of play with toys. Owner kept Vasya indoors only & stated that he is litter box trained. In the home, Vasya used an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Owner did not have a scratching post in the home but had 2 small rugs for Vasya to scratch on. Owner stated that Vasya did not try to scratch on any furniture in the home. In the home, Vasya was fed both dry & wet food brand Purina U/T Healthy Formula.
Behavior during intake: Vasya was had a tense body and kept lip licking during intake. He allowed to be picked up and transferred from owners carrier to ACC carrier without any issues but then kept trying to flee. Counselor was able to scan for a mc, collar and take a picture.
Owner stated that Vasya had surgery in 2012 for a urinary blockage but had been healthy ever since.Owner was feeding Vasya both dry and wet food for Urinary Health.
ENRICHMENT:
01/23/17
Huge fat housecat, pretty face with a somewhat grumpy countenance (she wears it adorably, though), sprawled out on blanket at rear of cage. Allows petting but hesitant, especially with body being touched, lip licks. Needs time to adjust to this environment. Will go slowly with her–she’ll dictate the pace–and try to find some activities to get her moving a bit. Initial med notes having been on a special diet, will check with Medical about that. Gave a couple toys and treats, which I spread across her wide cage so she’d need to move to find them.
