08/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Uber was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He attempted to flee upon intake and did not allow handling. He was sociable at first during his initial medical exam, but would hiss and growl during handling. After a moment, he allows handling. Reaction to assessor: Uber was curled up by the back, alert upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Uber focuses on the assessor and appears tense. Reaction to cage door opening: Uber gets up, hisses, and squeezes his body into the corner of his kennel. Reaction to touch: Uber lowers his head and hisses, but he allows gentle petting and slowly begins to warm up. He closes his eyes, lip licks, but begins to purr and lean in for petting. Reaction to pick up: Uber is a bit tense, but allows handling and nuzzles into the assessor’s arms. Behavior Determination: Experience Uber tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
